Designer Vs High Street: Which one does it for you?

It is definitely  a shallow thing to judge people on what they wear, but you just can’t help but notice the woman who walks down the street with a pair of Louboutins on her feet or that chick who is rocking some impressive Micheal Kors Bag or the guy the attractive Louis Vuitton suit and the Guissepe Zanotti Shoes. So, designer or high street? Which comes out victorious in the fashion world?

Ideally, buying designer clothes should be about the design. Our Designer purchases should be about three values, design, quality and then branding.. But a lot of people don't have this motive. Many Just purchase designer either just for the brand or just to show off.
Designer items are made of better quality than high-street ones so therefore last longer but the difference may not be as large as you think, these days, you can get great quality high street clothing that will last for years. Sometimes Designer doesn’t necessarily mean quality and sometimes surprisingly good quality may be found on a budget. Research the brand and know what you are buying if you want quality.

What I believe makes high street fashion so wonderful, is that it is consistently versatile. It has somehow created fashion for the unfashionable. You see people on the street effortlessly looking like Top models in these high street brands and luckily, we are seeing less 'chavy' track suits and more detailed styles. These days, fashion plays a much bigger role within society.

Years ago fashion was for the wealthy and the famous however, fashion has become much more realistic and is aimed at the wider public and is now more accessible to just anyone. High street brands like H&M, ZARA, Topshop ,  River island,  Next, even online ones like ASOS and so  on put fashion in the hands of the wider public. Their items are of very good quality and stylish too. Now you can even see some designer brands teaming up with the high street brand because the competition is a lot more fiercer for example Versace and H&M.

I am in no way insinuating that the high street is better but for the simple fact that they put fashion on the streets which is the main thing am concerned about is what makes it wonderful. Going for a celeb style look with a smaller purse for those who can't afford the big league is very nice.

Designers on the other hand is UNQUE and one of the main reasons why designer brands remain popular is that they offer special, pioneering designs. However, high streets are quickly beginning to incorporate the latest designs in their clothes, which is making designer clothing less distinctive.

Deciding which is better for you designer or high street may be difficult  but you really  don’t need to shop designer to look smart or stylish. So, in answer to the question of whether to buy high-street or designer clothes, I say: analyse where the value is. Is it in design, quality or just in branding? Thinking through those three should make the decision easy.

It's Okay To Take Some Fashion Risks!

I see people saying 'I wish I could wear this or wish I could wear that' or 'I could never pull that off'. It makes me kind of wonder what in the heavens is stopping them? Size? Colour?. Guess what? You can totally pull off any look you want to! You just might need a little practice and confidence. According to our instincts for self-preservation, we, as humans, cling to what is safe and even when we recognize the benefits that can be afforded by a deviating from our normal course of action, we find ourselves sticking to what is familiar. For example you order the same food you are used to in restaurants or practice the same boring tradition that your parents always had even though your mind tells you otherwise. If  we don't take some form of risks then we may not be able to know exactly what works or doesn't work. A man might face embarrassment and rejection by approaching a beautiful woman, he won't ever meet someone so attractive if he doesn't risk being turned down so unless we stroll away from the normal path, we wallow in mediocrity.

Dressing well takes practice and you have to take some risks. You may have to get it wrong a few times before you realizes what works for you but that's absolutely normal. The social risk of wearing something outside your comfort zone can be intimidating. You feel like everyone is noticing your clothes or shoes or hair, but you are uncertain of what they think. You just don't feel 'at home' in your own clothes. I  am very sure Mr Kanye West must have felt kind of  awkward when he stepped out in his white stripped 'shadeless'  shades which by the way became a trend at the time or his sneakers on his tuxedo suit but no one will argue with me how huge Kanye is as a fashion icon or will ever doubt his sense of style. Rihanna as well is known for her immense sense of style but often steps out in bizarre outfits and am sure she also would have felt awkward at first but they thrive in confidence in pulling off the risk taken. You just need to overcome the  initial awkwardness until it passes. Until then, you can't judge the way they look on you objectively.

Remember ' The fit' is everything but there are always rules when it comes to fashion. They can be broken but you have to know them before you can break them.

If you see a style that you really want to try but are a little intimidated by it, practice wearing it around your house till you gain confidence with it. You need to feel comfortable with the look to be able to pull it off and as long as it fits you will definitely be able to pull it off!

If it is a dress you are rocking or a mix and match print or it's not your style to show off some skin or you just feel the outfit will not go down well with your size, colour, prints, whatever it may be. Sometimes it's cool to turn up your style by challenging yourself to rock something out of the ordinary by putting the fab fashion trends to the test.

Do You Carry Yourself and Your Style the Right way?

There is more to just wearing good clothes and having them fit. how do you think you would be rated if you are going to a lavish function, all dressed in an expensive outfit, the suit fits you well, the dress is intact, fitted and very well combined but what if you still do not look great.  Do you know why? It is mainly because you are missing the most important thing 'The way you carry yourself'. Your posture, composure  and character is also important in emphasising your style. You have to also have the poise and the charisma to go with your style.

We are mostly worried about how well the dress or suit fits and how well we look good but how many of us have stopped and actually thought seriously about how we are standing, walking, our movements and how it might be affecting the way you look? I think it is very easy to underestimate just how important having a good posture is, even more so for those that have a keen interest in fashion and the way they dress.

Your posture sends a very different message out to people. It sends a message about how you feel about yourself. a good posture shows off  a good outfit, and it shows that you are happy in what you’re wearing and more importantly it sub consciously shows you are happy with yourself, and are comfortable with who you are not to mention shows you are oozing of confidence.

Little Tips:

Always try not to slouch or drop your shoulders, keep your back straight and your shoulders upright and stand straight up.

A sloppy appearance, messy hair and wrinkled clothes sends the message, 'I don't care' and no one would ever take you seriously. The way you walk, sit and your calmness should have an air of confidence and surety. You should also work on the way you talk and walk. Another important thing is your body movement and gestures. Most people unconsciously use gestures to back up what they are saying. Watch people talking at parties, during a meeting, during a class, at dinners, they all use their hands as a direct illustration to what they are saying such as using their hands to describe an object or and action.

Finally, you have to be aware that people do notice your posture. The same way as people will notice your shoes first, they will take particular notice of someone that looks confident and seem more assured of themselves and holds their head up proudly. It implies that they are comfortable in the way they look and in the end that really makes a big difference. Work on your general appearance.

Being big is sexy too!!

Being overweight doesn't mean you can't look fabulous! Everyone wants to feel gorgeous, and you don't have to be the slimmest of people to be it. Many women can be overweight and be beautiful such as Adele, Oprah whinfrey and Raven-Symoné, All you have to do is find a style to suit you. All it takes is a little know how and a healthy dose of confidence. Here's how to make the most of your curves.

1. Make sure you are confident first Just feel good in your own skin! People will admire you for yourself. Confidence will make you feel sexy.

2. Know what colours look good on you. A flattering colour can make your skin tone glow, while the wrong one can make you look sallow and washed-out.

3. If you're looking to wear a skirt, you can't go wrong with an A-line cut. Avoid pencil skirts. A flowing dress always suits big ladies more. A-line dresses that are tight under your bust but straight from there will hide your tummy. Bold belts on your dresses (if it goes with it) also makes you look slimmer

4. Show off  your best features, if you got good size breast, show of some cleavage! V neck and U shaped tops or dresses are your best bet. Keep your back straight and maintain a good poise always. Avoid wearing things that are too tight on you, it will make your hidden body parts bulge out.

5.Invest in some shape wear, 'Suck-you-in' lingerie can take off some pounds. And yes, you can breathe with it on.

6.  Accessorize yourself! Cute jewelleries are important, bigger women can actually pull off bold jewellery that would swallow up smaller ladies. Don't forget to always smell nice with a captivating cologne.

7. A full hair always fits a bigger lady because it evens out her body proportions.

Remember to smile always, have a good personality, exercise, eat healthy and most important thing is how you carry your body. With all the tips, if you don't carry your self well then it all amounts to nothing. So be poise full!

How well does your suit fit?

Today's write up is all about the men. There's nothing more sexier a lady loves than a man in a high quality, comfortable and well-fitted suit. Suits are designed to give emphasis on all of a man’s best features, they can be made to enhance the broadness of the shoulders and elongate the body.

I always prefer to go to the tailor and have it cut right on your body size but a lot of men also like to get it off the rack at the shops. There are a few important things to consider when you try on a suit you want to buy at the shops, to know you how well it fits.

1. Firstly, when shopping for a new suit, you need to go in a formal outfit. Very  importantly, you need to wear a well fitted shirt, one that you can wear with a suit. There is no point in shopping for a suit while wearing a t-shirt or anything casual as this will give you a false idea of how the suit actually fits you.

2. The shoulder is the most important part of the jacket. If the shoulder fits correctly, the rest of the suit can be altered to suit your body shape. If the shoulder is too small, it will make your head look huge; while if the shoulder is too big, it will make your head look tiny. The jacket shoulder should hug and grip along your shoulder. Quite simply, if the shoulder doesn’t fit, then the jacket doesn’t fit.

3. The sides of the suit should not go straight down. There should be a 'bit' of curve that slims to your waist, and comes out slowly to your hips. and this it emphasises the ‘V’ of the chest and shows a bit of  waist shape.

4. The jacket sleeve is one of the most noticeable part of an bad fitting suit. A poorly fitted sleeve will make the wearer look as though the suit is borrowed. The sleeve of your jacket should come up to the base of your hand, and should show off  a  little bit of your shirt cuff.

5.  The body of the jacket should be loose enough that you can easily perform normal activities, like tying your shoes. If the back feels as if it is going to rip, then it's not a fit. A good test is the hug test  which is to say, if your jacket feels like it will tear if you were to hug someone, it’s too tight.

6. Armholes should be comfortable in motion they should not be so tight that they cut into underarm. but avoid any excessive space. An easy way to check this is... if lifting your arms the suit moves up more than  an inch, then the armholes are too low.

7.  There are different ways to decide how long a suit should be but all of these methods should work for the average shaped man. The suit should completely cover your butt, and no more

8. Regardless of how well your suit fits, if your trousers do not match your body shape, your suit will look unflattering. The waist of your pant should be comfortable yet hug. Your trousers should stay comfortably on your body without the aid of a belt. If you need a belt to keep your pants up, the pants do not fit. The trousers should fall straight down your leg, without any bulges, with the hem of the pants falling right along the laces of your shoe.

In general, when shopping for suits make sure you focus on fitness, slimness, placement, and comfort. Keep in mind that every person’s proportions are a bit different, as you may need to bend some of these rules if your body differs from the average man.

Why style is important?

Style is a reflection of who you are and your character.  The way that you look and dress is the first impression that people have of you. Style is important to us because it's a means of self expression, it enables us to say something important to the world about who we are, or who we'd like to be. The clothes we wear say things about us even to people we don't talk with directly. That's why I always insist 'STYLE IS A LANGUAGE'.

Imagine a world where everyone wore the same clothes, dressed the same way, looked the same way, liked the same things and had the same style, now that wouldn't exactly be a colourful world like we are now would it? There would be confusion, misunderstanding and commotion everywhere. Your personal style is a great way to express who you are and what you stand for and is what stands you out from the next person. It is the outer reflection of your inner self. So we can also say 'STYLE IS PERSONALITY'.
Fashion and style let people know if you are serious or not for example the way that you dress on a job interview tells employers if you might make a good employee.

Another importance of style is, when you know you look good in an outfit, it gives you a massive form of confidence which is why I also insist that 'STYLE IS CONFIDENCE'. To have that air of confidence when you step out in your outfit, first you have to know your self and then create your own style and image based on the various aspects of your personality and lifestyle, which includes your taste, interests, desires, inspirations, aspirations and history. You bring all of them together and let it shine in the way you dress but of course the aspects you only want to express and show to the world. It's always important to show off your strong assets and hide the sides you don't feel good about. Looking truly sexy involves knowing what to bare and what to keep under wraps. Choose one body part that does it for you and show it off

Why Is It Important to Develop a Personal Fashion Style?

The main reason is to feel and look good!  Creating your personal style helps you achieve a sense of confidence and comfort in how you put together your outfits. This sets you apart from the rest.

Once you have found your inner persona, your style will improve and you'll look fabulous. This will radiate through the way you dress. You'll feel good and attract admirations.

Let's define your personal style!!

Style yourself according to your body type

Fashion is all about dressing your body. If you know your body shape and everyone should then you will be able to find clothes that fit and flatter. Humans come in all shapes and sizes, so how do you find clothes that are flattering to your specific body type? The main thing is to know your proportions, and use fashion to show off your best features and hide everything else.

There are different body types for the ladies and I will tell you the types and a few important tips to consider while styling yourself to look your best:

1. The apple shaped: A shape were your weight is more concentrated on your upper body, busts ,stomach and these are all bigger than your hips or waist. Your best assets are your busts and your legs so  if you have this body type, you probably want to emphasize your tight legs and butt, draw attention away from your waist and draw attention to your bust wearing V-necks.

2. The Pear shaped:  Your lower body is wider than your upper body in other words, your hips are wider than your shoulders, your bottom is round and your waist is well defined. If this is your body type, there are things you can do to make your hips and butt look slimmer, but some women might want to make their butts bigger. If you want your butt look smaller, go all out for loose fit dresses or skirts and if you want them to look bigger always go for tight fits outfits.

3. Straight/rectangular :  With this body shape your shoulder and upper body is about the same as your hips and waist, more like a cylinder, if you have this body type, Your arms and legs are your best assets and you don't have to minimize any body features. Wear dresses that create curves and show off slender legs and arms. Tube dresses and peplum dress makes better senses for this body shape.

4. Inverted triangle:  This body shape features a broad chest and wide shoulders which are larger compared to a small waist and hips. Your best assets are your legs so try show them off  more often. Steer clear from tops or dresses that makes your shoulder look wider or exposes them like strapless dresses.

5. The figure 8 shape:  Lots of fashion stylist call it 'Hour glass shape'  I like to call it the figure 8.  This body shape has equal hip and bust measurements with a small waist; if you're one of the few lucky ladies with this body type, dress to flatter your beautiful curves. Your best assets is your CURVES! Show them off!!  Most outfit you rock will definitely fit you as long as they are fitted and your right size.

6. The Diamond shape:  These body shapes features a wide upper body, wide waist and even wider hips they are mostly referred to as the Big Bodied Women (BBW) ladies like Adele and Beth ditto. If  this is your body type,  then Choose tops with cuts, necklines and A line dresses that draw attention to your bust which are most often your best assets. Accessories like wide belts,  chunky necklaces and earrings also enhance these outfits.

If you're a petite woman (short and skinny) avoid full-length coats and maxi dresses - they'll just swamp you. Choose cropped jackets, shorts, and mini dresses to keep your petite frame in perfect proportion. Dressing in one colour or wearing vertical stripes will make you look taller. Try high heels too!

For the men, there's less variation in body type among men than among women, but there's still plenty you can do to balance your proportions.. Men are either slim and tall, slim and short, bulky short or bulky tall ( both with broad waist) or just muscular and athletic build.  Which ever body size you find your self, its always best you grab a cloth that fits your size, while doing that, it's important to note that, short men should stay away from large fitting cloths which will make them look shorter and vice versa. If your waist is larger than your chest, you will certainly want to avoid showing your broad waist line.

Comfortable clothing will make you feel better and make you more confident. Consider all your options. Once you've determined your body shape, you can begin to consider which fashion trends to embrace and which to avoid. Spend some time in front of the mirror and do a fair and honest assessment of your body. Then put these fashion tips to work for you!

Keep in mind that if you really want to wear something that this article or any other article says is "unflattering" for you, you should still go on with it anyway. The only thing that really matters is how you feel in your clothes. These are just ideas and suggestions on what will look good on you. Your style is what makes YOU!

Accessorize your looks

Accessories can make or break your look. When choosing fashion accessories to match your outfit, consider the colour, scale and style of the pieces, and keep the occasion in mind. Fashion accessories can define your style, for example a white shirt and jeans or simple black dress can look completely different depending on your choice of handbag, shoes, jewelry and other accessories.

Accessories can take any outfit from drab to fab. They can also help extend your wardrobe because you can achieve multiple looks from one basic dress just by changing your accessories. To look your best, put as much effort into selecting your fashion accessories as you do the main outfit.

Here are few tips to consider when you accessorize:

1.   When you're wearing patterns, simple accessories are the best option. Too much accessories and jewelry will make prints look tacky.

2.  The scale and shape of your handbag is also important. Consider your body type in addition to what you are wearing. Tall, thin women look best with short, slouchy bags such as clutches. Petite women should avoid oversized satchels, these bags overwhelms their small frames. Short ladies should also stay clear of handbags with long straps. Plus-size and hourglass-shaped women look fabulous with medium-sized structured handbags to balance out their curves.

Accessories for men are also very important because they enhance your style. Regardless of style or age, there are essential accessories that every man should own. The next time you're shopping for a man in your life  whether it be your husband, brother, father, or friend consider this list of male essentials to figure out what he may be missing. Nothing's better than picking out a gift that he will truly put into good use because these are the most important male accessories.. 1. Belt, 2.Wristwatch, 3. Coloured tie, 4. Cuff links, 5. sunglasses and 6. Good leather wallet.

Colours are everything, Know how to combine colours!

Ever wonder how some of your favourite celebs put colours together to create eye-catching and fabulously colourful outfits? It's simple! it's all about knowing which colour suits them and they are brave enough to mix and match other colours that go with the colour which suits them.

Wearing the right colours can help you appear more vibrant, alert, and even younger. The wrong colours can make you appear sickly, older, and can wear you instead of you wearing them

Here let me give you a tip:

Combing a fuchsia or bright red dress with a cobalt blue is such a fun and bold combo.

Brown is a neutral colour, it will go with virtually any colour but it is not bright, so combing a brown with a bright colour like yellow will give a perfect outfit to rock your day with.

This also goes for the men as well, rocking a dull coloured outfit should be combined with a bright coloured one or accessories. Mixing colours is an essential skill for any man who hopes to dress well.  Mixing colours can create two effects: harmony or disorganization. When we mix colours in an outfit, we want to choose colours that work with each other to create an appearance that’s pleasant to look at, not a mash of colour that looks chaotic.

One of the questions guys ask me all the time is how to match one’s clothes. This question is basically about colours because that’s where most men have the biggest problems.

You want to standout from the crowd?  Then Match your colours correctly even if they are all bright colours. For example blue will always go well with white, so will black and yellow, red and black as well as grey and black.
