Style Tips: Plus-Sized women

With the recently concluded golden globes gone, and every fashion blogger or website analyzing and criticizing outfits and styles of celebrities and model like (Skinny) looks, i couldn't help but notice how people always stray away from noticing the beautiful plus size ladies, although recently a few blogs, style chats, look books and websites are now springing up about inspiring styles for plus-size women which was previously ignored, it is a way forward. There is still need to have more. This is quite encouraging to more ladies who are out there on the big side, not happy or confident about their looks and are looking for style inspirations. This brings me to my write up today. In a world where the skinny models are portrayed as the beautiful ones, we consider a few tips on how to style plus sized women.

When trying to style or shop for your plus size body, we know it can be quite difficult and head draining.  The first thing you need to do before shopping or styling your plus size body is to know your body type. There are both tall and short full figure women, and each and one of them has a different body shape that requires different set of styling and clothing strategies to look their best. For example, you might have wider shoulders compared to your hips, while another lady who is also a plus size has wider hips than shoulders.... So before you continue reading this style tips and advice, i recommend that you check out my previous post on 'Style Yourself According To Your Body Shape' There you'll learn the basics on how to know your body figure and not just size.

With that out of the way, here are few style tips you should consider.

1. If you like it and it fits buy it: Forget about "a big girl can't wear this or that" As i always say, the ultimate rule of style is 'Confidence' and when you like something you are going to be confident rocking it.

2.Do a lot of fittings: Involves trying things on. A lot of plus size ladies don't. This may be because they lack confidence but you never know how something will look unless you try it on. It’s easy to just look at a dress and say it’s not going to work for your body. How can you honestly know that if you haven’t tried it on?

3.There are no rules: When it comes to fashion and shopping for your plus size body, you have to forget the old outdated fashion rules. Yes , plus size women don't have to stick to only black clothes, they can wear bright colors beyond a scarf. Yes, plus size women can wear shorts and skirts. It’s all about finding the right cut and style for your body.

4. Accessory: I have always maintained that accessories are always important components of every outfits. Whether it's a simple or bold statement jewelry or just a simple scarf, accessories compliments your outfit and takes eyes off part of the outfit you'd rather conceal.

5. Dress types: While you should not be restricted to a certain type of dress, V-neck tops, wrap dresses look particularly wonderful on plus sized women. Most plus sized women are blessed with sizable bust so the V-neck tops or dresses accentuates that, while wrap dresses creates waists and add shape. It is always best to show off your best features.

In conclusion, you don’t need to lose weight to look great from a styling perspective. At the end of the day, whether your are happy with your body or trying to lose weight, you owe it to yourself to look and be your best no matter your size. Having great style has nothing to do with your size. It’s all about knowing your body and knowing what works for it. You don’t have to wait to lose those extra pounds to wear a sexy dress.

Socks With Loafers, Right or Wrong?

With the festive season all gone and the winter very much around in full blast, i'd like to wish you all a very  happy and successful new year. I haven't written or put up a post in a few months because of tight schedules and in my subsequent write ups, i will be writing and showing you all what i have been up to these last months, but am back now by popular demand.

That said, lets concentrate on the main course today for the men.

Is it right to wear socks with loafers?

Firstly there are different types of  Loafers- Tassel loafers, penny loafers and slipper loafers to mention a few. Loafers are designed as a slip-on shoes and many people will tell you that socks and these slip-on shoes just don’t go but this is hardly practical when its cold and snowing which means weather is a huge factor and also the type of outfit worn. So can you wear socks with loafers?

In simple terms, the answer is YES! But it’s very important to pick the right socks. With that said, the type of the slip-on shoe comes to mind. Suede tassels loafers don’t deal with the harsh weather conditions as well as leather, and are much harder to maintain. So depending on the weather, put away your suede loafers and get them out in the summer and go sockless when you do.

While it's almost like a norm not wearing socks with slip-on shoes, when wearing socks with loafers always make sure they are colorful or patterned ones that compliment your outfit (preferably matching them with an accessory like pocket square or scarfs). Socks with loafers are very stylish if you get it right.

It is also very important to consider your style of outfit when wearing slip-on shoes and in this context, wearing it with socks. Wearing tassel loafers with business suits would probably not be considered a faux pas depending on how you combine to pull it off, but I still advice you to wear it with a casual suit or blazer combination, it feels more at home with that look.

No matter what you read, a loafer is never a truly formal shoe because of its casual build which is why there's always a debate of wearing socks with it or not but one thing is for sure, when wearing socks with it, make it stylish and worth it.

As beautiful as fashion is, the rules are made to be broken so consider it if the weather, your outfit and occasion allow.
